Trauma-Informed

The truth is... adoption is trauma and it has an impact on the child's nervous system, in some way, unique to each child and situation.
When we have enough information about what this means, we can respond in the ways our child needs most.

Body-Informed

When we understand how the brain and body work under stress, impacted by trauma, and discover what it means to have a vulnerable nervous system, then we learn how we can best support our child(ren) - and ourselves.
We also have trauma, a nervous system and a stress response!

Support for You

Being present with other adoptive parents, in a safe and supportive environment can be so helpful as we navigate this wild journey of parenthood.
The experienced facilitators can help you put your child's behavior into context and deepen your understanding, adding to your own expertise.

Meet Your Group Facilitators

Melissa Holland

Melissa is an adoptive parent, parent coach, and self-regulation specialist.

She is the founder of Inner Wisdom Parenting. She supports parents in addressing their children’s challenging behaviors, with online courses, workshops, coaching and consulting in the essential areas of emotional and self-regulation, self-compassion and mindfulness. She is an experienced coach and teacher, previously in the areas of positive psychology, career and life transitions, now a trained parent coach, and a certified self-regulation specialist.

She lives with her boys in Boulder: the big one (husband), the little one (son) and the fuzzy one (Rocket, the Cat). When she’s not creating courses or supporting parents, she’s reading, learning, drinking coffee, feigning interest in Minecraft and Star Wars, reading about trail running (not actually running – yet) and hanging out with her favorite boys. Her motto to live by – lately – has been “hold it lightly”. She’s still learning how.

Lauren Fishbein

Lauren is a transracial adoptee, born in Chile, raised in Maryland, parent coach and podcast host of Tough Love.

She is the founder of LiLuna Coaching. She is a graduate of Naropa University and earned her master’s degree in Mindfulness Based Transpersonal Counseling. She believes in the deep transformation that comes from peeling back all the layers and finding the origin of your imprinted traumas. These traumas affect you in each moment of life, whether you are conscious of it or not!

Lauren works with individuals and families offering a unique personalized program that is tailored to the family’s needs. She uses mindfulness as the foundation of her program and pulls from different modalities and philosophies such as Synergetic Play Therapy, Accelerated Evolution, neuroscience, generational trauma, attachment styles and more.Â
